Cruelty-Free Makeup Alternatives (The only makeup-related post you'll ever see here, most likely.)12/17/2016 Hello guys! So, I'm a girl, and I use makeup...but I am nowhere near being an expert in that area. I like to keep it pretty simple usually because I have next to no skill when it comes to certain things- foundation, eyeliner, highlighter, bronzer, and blush to name a few. My usual "routine" consists of mascara, chapstick, and maybe some concealer underneath my eyes- I add eye-shadow and lip-gloss for times when I want to dress it up a bit more. In recent months, I started looking into cruelty-free makeup after watching Tessa Violet's "How Cruel is My Makeup Bag?" video. In the video, Tessa went through her makeup bag and used a site called Logical Harmony to see if the brands she currently used were from companies that are "cruelty-free"- meaning no animal testing happened in the making of the makeup. So after checking out Logical Harmony and researching a bit, I decided to go through my own makeup collection and replace the things that were not cruelty-free. (Side note: I'm not here to tell you that you need to use cruelty-free makeup or to judge you if you don't- it's just something that I felt like I wanted to switch to, and since it was a switch I could make pretty easily then I decided to go for it. I don't think animal testing is a good thing, but I'm not here to tell you that you're an evil person just because you don't use cruelty-free makeup. Because you're not. ;) ) As it turned out, only two of my makeup items were from cruelty-free brands. The rest weren't :( Both of the cruelty-free items were from e.l.f., so I decided to try out more makeup from them. (Another side note: According to Logical Harmony, e.l.f.'s cosmetics are vegan, but some of their brushes are not.) (Side note #3: This is not a sponsored post. I'm not really promoting e.l.f., I'm simply telling you all what I got from them and whether or not I'm liking it so far. I'm sure there are many other cruelty-free brands with great products; e.l.f. is just the one I happened to go with. :) ) What I got...Eyeshadow: Baked Eyeshadow Pallette (NYC) & Clay Eyeshadow Pallete Both of these seem to work pretty well and I'm happy with them. I would reccomend using the Baked Eyeshadow Pallette wet, because when I used it dry, the color didn't show very well. Mascara: Beautifully Bare Lash Tint Mascara This is meant to color your eyelashes- not to give them any volume. I like the concept because my eyelashes are already really long and when I use a volumnizing mascara, they get too long and the mascara gets everywhere and gah. It's annoying. So I decided to go for something meant only to darken your lashes a bit, and I like it- it does, however, clump your eyelashes together just a bit, so I had to use a brush to fix that. Other than that slight problem, I'm satisfied with it. Blush: Mellow Mauve Blush I like this product, but this is the first blush I've ever tried so I have nothing to compare it to. Powder: Prime & Stay Finishing Powder Works well, I like it...er, nothing else to say really... Lip Colors: Runway-Ready Lip Pallette This is a set of six different lip colors that you apply with a brush. They look like they're lip glosses but they don't have the often-annoying sheen of lip gloss. The colors are all really pretty and I actually really like using the brush to "paint" it on. So yes...oh, also the brushes I use from them are their Eyeshadow Brush and Blush Brush as well as their Foundation Brush (which I use for finishing powder, not foundation). I also own their Eyeshadow "C" Brush, but I don't know what it's for...? (It something that came free with my order so I have no idea what to do with it...heh.) Anyways, that wraps this up... Thanks for reading about my inexperienced makeup "adventures".
Have a great week! (8 days til Christmas!) xo, Anna
