It's been a while since I've posted a book review, so I thought I'd tell you all about the series that I've been reading lately.
A friend recommended the "Temeraire" series by Naomi Novik many months ago, and I've been listening/reading to the books since then (and not making very rapid progress until recently). I'm currently halfway through "Victory of Eagles" (book 5), which means I'm halfway through the entire series- yay me! I'm really enjoying it so far. Its genre is fantasy and alternate history. The series retells the story of the Napoleonik Wars, with the added awesomeness of an air force comprised of dragons. If you like fantasy, you'll probably enjoy this series. If you enjoy history/historical fiction, you'll most likely like this series. If you're into battles and wars and warfare and battle strategy and all of that, then there's a good chance you would really love these books.
The dragons can speak (I'm not going to consider that a spoiler...) and they all have their own unique personalities. It's one of the best things ever. If you're like me, you'll be admiring the detail and intricate plot, characters, etc. of the series half the time you're reading it... and squealing about baby dragons and such the other half. It's a lovely 50/50 combination.
As I mentioned above, the plot is intricate and obviously well thought-out. Thinking about all of the research that must have gone into this series to make it historically accurate makes my head hurt (which is a good indicator for the series...). The characters are very well written and real. Not to mention, each one is portrayed in a way that sets them apart from the rest of the characters. They're all defined excellently.
(As far as an age-rating goes, this is probably a book best for older teens.)
Anyways. The first book is "His Majesty's Dragon", and then
So, long story short: I definitely recommend these books (particularly for fantasy and alternate history fans). I'll link to the first book on Goodreads just below, in case you want to find out more.
Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
